Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome: Impacts on Learning and Development

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

In this presentation, we will review NAS and it’s impacts on early development. We will review the importance of tummy time, typical development, bonding, and how the family with a child experiencing NAS can be taking extra strides to implement strategies into daily routines to develop core strength. We will talk about the importance of early intervention services/home visitation programs. We will problem solve challenges and review strategies to support families, childcare providers, and teachers. We will review the challenges of core weakness and how it contributes to sensory processing challenges as a child gets older and discuss strategy ideas for common challenges observed both in the home and school settings.
