The opioid epidemic is having a significant impact on the Tri-State area with a dramatic increase in the number of children exposed to opioids in-utero and born with Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS). This workshop will provide an overview of neonatal, early childhood, and long-term outcomes of children born with NOWS. Additionally, it will provide a review of strategies to foster early cognitive/language development in early childhood, a known area of significant need in these children. Finally, the role the Child Welfare system plays in shaping the development of these children will also be discussed.
